Congratulations to the following nominees!

Chicago native and former NFL wide receiver-turn- filmmaker, writer, director and producer, Matthew A. Cherry, who earned a Best Animated Short nomination for his film, “Hair Love!” Here is his reaction to the news from his Twitter page;

Cherry is the second former professional athlete to be nominated for an Academy Award. Former NBA star, Kobe Bryant won the 2018 Best Animated Short for, “Dear Basketball.” Cherry is currently an executive at Monkeypaw Productions, founded by Oscar winner, filmmaker, and director, Jordan Peele (“Us,” “Get Out”).

Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner, Cynthia Erivo, could become the youngest to earn the EGOT title if she wins an Oscar for Best Actress in a Lead Role, and/or Best Song, “Stand Up,” for the movie, “Harriet.”
